Would A Medium Action 7 Feet Fishing Pole Be A Good Idea For Fishing In A Small Lake With Mostly Trout? ?

I fishing in a small park near me which has a small lake. I don’t know whether to buy a 7 feet medium action pole that is said to be good for surf fish and stripers or to get a smaller pole.

    Seven feet is the perfect length to get some distance on a small lake. If it were a bigger area, you’d want one a little longer in order to get a lot of distance on your cast. As far as being able to feel the fish and get a good fight, you don’t need a short pole as someone else suggested, it’s all in the action and quality of the pole. Unless you are going for panfish, which trout is not, then you definitely want something in the medium-light, medium, or medium-heavy action range.
    My husband has a 7′ medium action graphite pole by Abu Garcia on his spinning reel, and has it spooled up with 8lb. line. It is a great pole with lots of strength, but also lots of sensitivity. He can feel the small fish bite, but when a lunker grabs the line, it’s strong enough to hold it without breaking. I use a 6′6″ medium-heavy action graphite pole by Abu Garcia on my baitcaster, and I love it too, it also offers a lot of strength without sacrificing sensitivity. I have it loaded with 20lb braid, but have found that is too heavy and will probably downgrade to 15lb soon. As you can tell we love the Abu Garcia poles, they aren’t too expensive, but are AWESOME rods.
    I say 7′ medium would be perfect for what you are looking for, medium-light might would even work.

    As mentioned, that be a Lil’ too much for what your wantin’ it for. Somethin’ round 6′ 6″ or even a bit smaller will do ya’ and as for the action, think maybe medium or medium light with 6-8 lb test line (can be a little “gutsey”, with the 6 but, a lotta’ fun ;) ). What with your fishin’ mainly for Trout, they be a far cry from the likes of surf castin’ and Stripers ;) … < ' ( (( > <

    that might be a little too much. You want to buy your pole accordingly so you can feel the fish bite and really feel them fight =) my dad uses this little piece of cr@p pole about 3 and a half feet high and super skinny. he always catches a bunch of fish and has never had a problem. the difference i would say is how far out you want to cast your set up. large poles will get your bait waaaayyyy out there but i tend to catch my trout around 20′ feet from shore.

    For a small park and trout fishing I would advise going to a medium light 6′6″ rod. with 8-12 pound test and a small shimanu reel.
    Use a bobber with one pole…and if you have another put a sinker on it and tightline it.

    Seven foot pole will work fine, with 6-8 pound line your in business, you never know when you’ll hook a monster trout and you want to be prepared.
