Family Vacation; Arizona/grand Canyon?

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010 at 10:54 am

Were taking a trip to the grand canyon next week, and we need some ideas of what to do on a tight budget. We will be staying in Flagstaff for most of the week traveling to the canyon for hikes and going down to Tempe to the Big Surf water park.
What other things can we venture into? We dont mind hiking, though my dad has a bad back, and were pretty much up for anything that dosnt cost too much.
My younger brother is 13, im 19 and my parents… well no ages needed :] Thanks for the help!
we live in Oregon if you guys need any ideas of what to do here!

You and your brother would love Slide Rock just outside Sedona, it is a state park and if there is any cost it would only be a few dollars parking maybe. I always recommend the Grand Canyon Deer Farm located off the Hwy between Flagstaff and Williams, about 25-miles outside Flagstaff. There are heaps of deer just wondering free and you get to wonder around with them and hand free them, and there are llamas and other animals too that are behind cages to view or feed as well. I think it is like $5-10 per person. Between Flagstaff and Phoenix are a lot of ‘State Treasures’ like the Montezuma’s Castle and other ruins. About.com is a reallt good source for tourist attractions like these and the places themselves are about $10 per car. Out of Africa in Camp Verde is also a nice place to see, but it can be a bit more expensive.

You do know that Big Surf is about 2 and a 1/2 hours from Grand Canyon. But it sure is fun! They also have a new waterpark in Phoenix that just opened called Wet N’ Wild. There’s also Anthem,AZ where there are a lot of outlet stores, a very cool place for families. You guys can also go to Slide Rock in Sedona for some swimming! It’s very pretty up there.
