Where Is The Best Place In The United States For A Beginner To Learn To Surf?

More people learn to surf at the beaches in Southern California than everywhere else in the world put together. Beginner beaches are Santa Monica, Bolsa Chica, the cliffs in H B, the northside of the Newport Pier, San Onofre, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach and the Strand on Coronado. You had better be an accomplished ocean swimming fool with a death wish to want to learn surfing though because the list of breaks where the locals and the accomplished surfers will never get shared here or anywhere with a beginner. Sorry it’s called self preservation….

if you’re on the west coast, southern california is a great place to learn– during the summer the water is pretty warm here (actually, it’s warm all year round compared to some spots up north) and there are also countless surf camps for all ages that run that time of year. Find a nice spot in SoCal, on a pretty mellow day, and have fun. If you choose a nice little beach-break or pier break, the waves are relatively soft and easy to learn on.

Cocoa Beach, Florida! They have awesome surf schools here (Ron Jon’s Surf School or Cocoa Beach Surf School) They have classes all year, and of course the water’s great!
From my experience, I went to a week long group session surf class at Ron Jon’s Surf School. I was able to pop up on my legs and surf straight to the shore by the end of day one.
They have different programs that can suit you to your needs. Plus, they give you a rash guard and a $100 coupon off Ron Jon surfboards! So they’re really worth the deal.
