There are some surf shops on the Gulf. Unfortunately, there is NO SURF on the Gulf. Well, okay, there is some, but really not much unless a tropical storm is chasing in the swell. However, find a surf shop, the folks there will hook you up with lessons and rent you a board to learn on.
Again, there is almost NO SURF there, so if surfing is your goal, get the east or west coasts.http://www.surfline.com/surf-report/west…

I heard from a movie called Step Into Liquid that there is surf in the Gulf Of Mexico, it’s called Super Tanker surf where you surf the wake the super tankers leave behind, this can go on for miles at time. All you need is to look for a super tanker, wait for the wake to arrive and surf.

There’s not much of a swell on the gulf but you’re best bet for days that there are waves is Corpis Cristi. Check http://www.surfline.com before you make a surftrip. Hope this helps!
