Learning to surf is not so complicated as it seems. To start with buy your self a bathing suit and go the the surf shop nearest you (if you live in CA it wont be so hard to find one).
From now they are two ways to start the easiest one is to ask the vendor where can you find a surfing school and take a surfing course for a week or so (about 150$-200$ including a rental surf board good for beginners and all the help you want).
The other more complicated way is to rent/buy a not so good beginners surfboard, a long board or a fun board a go to a beach near your home where you can find small 7-25 inch tall waves and surf when it’s not too crowded. After a month or so you’ll be in a good beginner’s level and you’ll also get to know a couple of surfers to guide you to next level.
