im 15 and i have had one surf lesson before, and i did stand up quite a few times but that was in noosa where the waves are small…and the surf instructor helped me everytime. for christmas i wanted more surf lessons however they are quite expensive :| the surf school that i wanted to go to sells a DVD which teaches you how to surf. Can you learn off a DVD? has anyone ever done that?

I guess a DVD can help with some things, but it really won’t teach you how to surf. Can you ride a bicycle? Do you think you could learn how to ride a bike from a DVD? I don’t think so, and surfing is a lot harder than riding a bike. There are lots of other surf schools/instructors, and the place to learn how to surf in in the water, not in front of a video screen. You can learn from an experienced surfer who is a friend or family member. I taught my son, lots of friends children and nieces and I am helping to teach my grandchildren, but I have been surfing for 43 years, so I have a little bit of experience. Do you have other surfers in your family? Good luck, and trust me, learn in the water.

I’m a surfer and you can learn what to do but a dvd won’t teach you you need to go out there and fall down and get right back up on that surf board and try again and also practice dvds don’t teach you what you can learn once your on the surf board hope that helps.

you can learn what to do, but surfing is a thing you gotta learn by trial and error. you probably won’t learn to surf by the DVD alone, you’d do better with lessons.
