Should I Upgrade From Xp-pro To Windows 7?

I am considering upgrading from Windows XP-Pro to Windows 7.
I was wondering how reliable is this operating system?
Do you still have to load and run anti-virus and anti-spyware software
and run them periodically to clean up the trash from
surfing the internet? Are there a lot of DRM issues with playing
music or video in regard to copyright issues. Do I have to load
additional codecs just to watch a DVD on my computer
or is pretty much plug and play? I do not want to
illegally copy audio or video, but I do not
want to have to jump through a bunch
of hoops to merely play audio or video.
Your comments are appreciated,

Win7 is very stable and reliable. It is certainly an improvement over Vista. I’m not sure if it’s better than Xp in the long run as there are things that Win7 does that I’m not happy with (mostly interfacing for the control panel functions), but it is stable and I have not had any OS crashes. Some of my applications have crashed, but most time will reload the second time I try and run them.
Zoo Tycoon 2 is notorious for that for me, often times needing a removal from the process list and a re-attempt.
Yes, you do still need a good anti-malware program. I suggest Sunbelt Software’s “Vipre” or Microsoft Security Essentials.
Have not run into any more or less issues with DRM with Win7 versus Xp
I do not think you have to add any additional codecs for DVD playback. I’m not sure because I honestly cannot remember if I have played a DVD before or after I loaded VLC Player (very good and free multi-media player…including DVD’s.
As for the whole “Should you” question. It depends on the speed and power of the computer. Basically if the machine was built before Vista (Win7 and Vista share similar requirements with Win7 actually being the least resource hogging of the pair) I wouldn’t suggest it. Stay with XP until that computer needs replacing. If it is “Vista Ready” or can be made to be “Vista Ready”, then yeah, sure go ahead and upgrade it.

Windows 7 is much better Operating environment than Windows XP, you should have no issues with codecs n all that, but Even if you install windows 7 you will need to rely on either Microsoft Security Essentials or Third party Antivirus Applicatio, I suggest Bitdefender 2010 or Panda cloud.

Looks like most people agree that it would be a wise move. Run the upgrade advisor first to make sure your hardware is capable: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows…

Windows 7 is a very good operating system. Much better than Windows XP. But windows 7 is almost exactly the same as Vista. There are very little differences between the two. And Vista will probably cost you less than Windows 7.
