I want to buy a new laptop. I would be using it mainly for web surfing, emails and playing low graphics games like puzzles, scrabble etc. I might put photos and a bit of music from the web on it, so nothing hi tech or too complicated. I want somethingcoloured, and fairly light so I can transport it easily or play it on my lap. I have seen a laptop advertised at a good price, its a Sony VAIO in red, here is the specs:
Enhanced Intel® Centrino® processor technology with Intel® Core™2 Duo processor T5550, Mobile Intel® GM965 Express chipset, Intel® PRO/Wireless 4965AGN network connection (802.11a/b/g/n) and extended battery life capability
3GB PC2-5300 DDR2 memory for multitasking power, expandable to 4GB; 667MHz frontside bus, 2MB L2 cache and 1.83GHz processor speed
Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive with double-layer support records up to 8.5GB of data or 4 hours of video using compatible DVD R DL and DVD-R DL media; also supports DVD-RAM
The next-generation Intel® Core™2 Duo processor is based on the innovative Intel® Core™ microarchitecture, so it runs faster and is more energy-efficient for cooler, quieter operation
14.1″ WXGA LCD widescreen display with XBRITE-ECO technology and 1280 x 800 resolution
200GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 rpm)
Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 graphics with Intel® Clear Video technology and up to 358MB total available video memory as allocated by Windows Vista; VGA-out and S-video out with Smart Display sensor; Sony Sound Reality
Multimedia controls, including play/pause, stop, rewind, fast forward, volume, mute and A/V mode, let you access and control your media with the touch of a button
Built-in 1.3-megapixel MOTION EYE Web cam with microphone makes it easy to video chat with and send video mail to family and friends
i.LINK (IEEE 1394) interface and 3 USB 2.0 ports for fast digital video, audio and data transfer; Memory Stick Duo with MagicGate functionality and Secure Digital media slots
Built-in A2DP Bluetooth technology; 10Base-T/100Base-TX Fast Ethernet LAN with RJ-45 connector; 56 Kbps V.92/V.90 high-speed modem
Weighs 5.5 lbs. and measures just 1.5″ thin for easy portability
Lithium-ion battery and AC adapter; 3 hours of battery life
Pulsing LED ground effects glow from beneath your laptop
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition operating system with Service Pack 1 (SP1) preinstalled; software package included with Sony Click to Disc, Microsoft Works SE 9.0 and more
Is this any good? For what I want? Price being charged is $1390 Australian dollars…..my other option is a Dell. Should also mention that the VAIO is coming from the US, the seller reckons they work all over the world.
Any advice appreciated!

The specifications would be more than enough for what you want to do with it, but it’s always good to have a little more power. I’d go with the VAIO, since Dell uses propriety parts (can only order them through Dell).

That’s a pretty hefty Laptop. It’s a fair price. About average price I would say. Sony is a good brand for the money. However, I recommend Dell over Sony. They have better prices and support. They are also the biggest company.

all Information you put up is good BUT Sony does not makes good laptops ,they do not last long ,also desk support sucks ,Get a Dell or IBM Levono with same specification you will be happier…

It’s a good laptop, good price, only worry is that Graphics Card. I don’t think it’ll survive a year on the glossy-aero windows vista.
And by the way, the processor is 1.8Ghz, its 3.6Ghz only if you add it up.
But, then mine would be 5Ghz O_o
