My friends want me to get Everquest, but my computer isn’t good enough so I need a new one, I’d like to get it as cheap as possible and it needs to meet these requirements:
* Operating System: Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
* Processor: 1GHz
* RAM: 512 MB
* Video Card: DirectX 9 compatible. Pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 64 MB of texture memory
* Sound Card: DirectSound compatible audio hardware
The recommended system requirements are:
* Operating System: Windows XP
* Processor: 2 GHz or greater
* RAM: 1 GB
* CD-ROM: 16x CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
* Video Card: DirectX 9 compatible. Pixel shader and Vertex shader compatible hardware with 128mb of texture memory or greater
* Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy
Besides playing Everquest all I need it for is surfing the internet. Please help, thanks.

If you buy a generic system you can still get Windows XP- (and in fact that’s what you want, since Vista requires more expensive hardware) The requirements for original Everquest aren’t that steep by today’s standards- even a bargain video card like the Geforce 7300GT (around $55) will work. If you spend $30 more (which I highly recommend) you can get a Radeon 2600XT or GeForce 7600GT which are much better performers.
If Everquest is your only gaming concern, then a video card under $100 is fine. Now if you later decide to migrate from Everquest to Vanguard, or try some first-person games like Half-Life 2 or Call of Duty 4, you’ll want a midrange video card at least, and those start around $150..
Here are a couple of systems that would work- I’d recommend the Magic Micro build with Windows XP and get either of the video cards I mentioned earlier from NewEgg.com (unfortunately this seller’s video upgrades seem a bit overpriced). The Cyberpower unit looks cooler but it comes with Vista (yuck) and still would need the video card upgraded to an 8600GT.
Of course these are just examples- a local computer store could easily build you something along these same lines.
Have fun running around Freeport and Butcherblock mountains!

You may think this is out of the question, but if you build your own, it will be cheaper than if you bought one from, let’s say, Dell or Compaq. Think about it…you’re paying for all the separate parts yourself. If you were to buy a Dell, some cannot be customized to meet your preferences for Everquest; therefore, you are paying for the brand name and unneeded hardware. Good luck.
