I Am Extremely Bored Of My Life.. I Want To “live”?

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010 at 10:48 am

I am so bored of having an ordinary life. I am a musician and audio engineer who used to play out all of the time and I loved it. Now I work 40 hours a week and go to school. I am bored of this ordinary life (I am in my 20’s). I am moving to California in 2011, but am going to continue being stuck where I am (Kentucky) until then. I miss my music and surfing etc. I want to make goals of things to do in 2010 that will make me feel “alive” again. Things that are new, fun and exciting. However in a small town in Kentucky I am having a hard time thinking of things. What are some things I can do in the upcoming year to feel alive and happy that I could do on a limited budget? I am going snowboarding in February but that’s all I have planned. Help me with my new years goal and Ill appreciate it! Best answer of course gets 10 points!

I can’t really tell from your question… are you looking to “be” entertained, like going to festivals, movies, theatre, events? Or, are you talking about making a personal change in your life to create your own excitement? You don’t need to be in Cali to do sports (except of course surfing). How about getting a good bicycle and making some goals for distance? Learn how to skateboard. Even in a small town, there are probably some volunteer opportunities. Check the city’s Chamber of Commerce web site for ideas. I’m not sure how you can miss music – do you not currently own your own instrument? Can you contact any local music sources to find out if there are some garage bands needing help? Most of those guys work or go to school and just play on weekends. Take the kid! Your wife may like some time off to do her own thing, too. Contact schools – even high school – to see if some bands have been formed. Man – start your own! Or, if you’re going to move somewhere you think life exists, then how about learning some new songs so you will be ready when you get there.
But I’ll warn you – and remember this – don’t sit around and wait for this or that to happen to “live”. Do things now. Write a blog. Write a book. You are unique as you are. No one else in the world has had your combination of experiences. Use it. I am now so sorry I have been waiting all my life for this or that to happen before I think my life will be “perfect”. Whether it’s waiting for the spouse to graduate college, then law school. Wait for a better job. Wait until the kids get older. Wait until I move into a better house. Wait for the house to be decorated just the way I want it. Wait for the kids to go to school. Wait for them to graduate. Now I’m 58 and look back and it seems I’ve accomplished nothing except work and raise two kids. Don’t put it off. Do it now.

Same here, I know how you feel. I lived in CT since I was 3. I am now 21, married with a 3year old. I love my life with my family but I get so bored of the ordinary life. I go to nursing school and that is all that holds me here. I lived in Puerto Rico for two years and they were the funnest non boring two years of my life. I plan to move over there when I finish my nursing career. So I just go with it and go out with my family to places when I can and TRY to have fun when I can. So you might want to just take it until you move to CA and hang out with friends, go to the movies, prank peopl once in a while[within the legal terms] and party a little. Nothing else I can think of right now.
